Get started with my treatment What Is Conventional Sclerotherapy?
Conventional Sclerotherapy is a procedure that involves injecting a chemical solution directly into the bad veins.
This solution causes the vein walls to seal shut -
stopping the flow of blood.
stopping the flow of blood.
As a result, the vein fades within a few weeks.
Spider Veins - Why Do They Occur?
Spider veins occur when the valves in your veins become weak or damaged. These valves act as one-way flaps to prevent blood from flowing backward as it moves up your legs.
If these valves become weak, blood can leak back into the veins and collect there, causing the veins to enlarge and become varicose.
Spider veins can also develop due to hormone changes, exposure to the sun, and injuries.
Schedule today The Sclerotherapy Procedure
Sclerotherapy does not require anesthesia and is typically performed in Dr. Vitale's office. The procedure takes about 15 to 30 minutes. The time depends on the size of the area and the number of veins being treated.
During the procedure:
The doctor cleans the area for treatment before using a very small needle to put the solution into the targeted vein.
After the injections, Dr. Vitale applies compression to and massages the treated area to keep blood out of the injected veins and to disperse the solution.
Start my treatment Recovery and Side Effects
After the procedure, it's important to walk around to prevent blood clots in your legs. Most people return to their normal activities on the same day.
Dr. Vitale will give you specific instructions to follow for recovery.
These may include:
Avoiding sun exposure to the treated areas for two weeks
Wearing compression stockings to maintain pressure as you heal
Sclerotherapy is generally safe, but it may cause temporary side effects at the injection site. Stinging, mild swelling, temporary brown lines or spots, and small temporary ulcers are the most common side effects of recovery.
These side effects usually disappear in a few days.
